Parents Can obtain Child ID Cards at Taste of Hershey

Hershey, PA – March 19, 2010 –– Derry Township School District (DTSD), the Trojan Foundation and Ident-A-Kid today announced a partnership that will help enhance security in district school buildings and offer peace of mind for parents.

Through the auspices of the Trojan Foundation, low income families in Derry Township will receive Immediate Response Child ID Cards from Ident-A-Kid, a company specializing in producing identification cards for pre-school and school-aged children. The durable, laminated cards provide families with a picture, physical description and fingerprint of their child in a format that is immediately available in the event of an emergency, such as a lost or missing child.

Ident-A-Kid will also be on hand at the Trojan Foundations’ annual Taste of Hershey event Sunday, March 28 from 1-4 p.m. at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. The Trojan Foundation is a non-profit educational improvement organization whose mission is to enhance and enrich the programs and services offered by Derry Township School District. Taste of Hershey is the foundation’s signature fundraising event, featuring samples provided by two dozen local restaurants and beverage providers. Taste of Hershey tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and will be available at the door.

Parents attending Taste of Hershey who are interested in obtaining ID Cards for their own families will be able to purchase a package at the Ident-A-Kid booth. Ident-A-Kid Child ID Cards contain a comprehensive and current physical description of a child including a professional, full-color photograph and a fingerprint using a special electronic touchpad that meets national standards. The reverse side of the card contains important information about what to do if a child is missing. The entire card is heat-seal laminated in heavy plastic for a permanent record. It is designed for parents, guardians, relatives or baby-sitters to carry at all times in their purses, wallets or billfolds. New technology available at no additional cost is eKid-ID, an electronic version of the traditional Ident-a-Kid Card sent directly to a parent’s cell phone. Parents then have the unlimited ability to share this card with other cell phones.

Ident-A-Kid is also providing Derry Township School District with an electronic visitor management system that will improve the guest registration processes at each school building. The district already has in place multiple layers of protections and protocols designed to ensure student safety within its buildings. The visitor management system enhances those safeguards while automating visitor and volunteer registration and identification. Not only will the system provide an improved tool for school administrators, it will streamline the visitation process for parents as well.
