Learn about the sex offender checks, nogo checks, and alert notifications in iVisitor Management
iVisitor Management is equipped with essential safety features for schools. Keeping your students and staff safe is our top priority, so we provide all schools with these safety features for free, unlike some school visitor management providers. This post will explore three features: sexual offender background checks, Nogo checks, and alert notifications to your staff. Let’s get started.
Sexual Offender Background Checks
What are Sexual Offender background checks in iVisitor Management?
iVisitor Management system uses the information provided by a visitor or gathered by a staff member during check-in to check the United States National Sex Offender Registry for a potential match. If one is found, your staff is alerted so that you can review the information before allowing a visitor on campus or denying them entry.

How do sexual offender background checks work with iVisitor Management?
To run sexual offender background checks with iVisitor Management, your stations need a license scanner set up. So that you’re following school safety best practices, we urge schools to use an optical license scanner to gather the necessary information to run the sex offender background check. Thanks to the technology we deploy with our scanners, visitors cannot use fake IDs to bypass this background check.
When visitors use iVisitor Management, they will be prompted to scan the back of their license using the optical license scanner. The license scanner reads the encrypted barcode on the back of the visitor’s license to gather their full name, date of birth, and state of residence. No other data fields are gathered, and the license information is not stored. Schools can save a visitor’s information for a faster check-in the next time.
The scanning of a license takes seconds and is highly accurate. Once the license has been scanned, the visitor can continue the rest of their check-in. When all prompts are completed, iVisitor Management will approve the entry or alert your staff if a potential match is found on the National Sex Offender Registry.
In rare cases, a visitor’s ID may not be scannable. For example, if the ID’s barcode is worn down too much or another form of identification is presented, like a passport or military ID. You can opt for a manual gathering of a visitor’s information for the sexual offender check. Staff will need to collect the information mentioned above to perform the background check.
However, because a user may intentionally provide false information without proof to verify the information they give you, we do not recommend schools manually enter a visitor’s info without proof of identification.

Nogo Background Checks
What are Nogo background checks in iVisitor Management?
With iVisitor Management, you can create a custom list of individuals or phrases you want to be flagged for review during a check-in. The Nogo list differs from the Sexual Offender background check in that you are responsible for adding, editing, and removing individuals or phrases from your Nogo list. The Nogo list is empty by default for all stations. Schools and districts tailor this list to fit their needs.

How do Nogo background checks work with iVisitor Management?
The Nogo checks work similarly to the sexual offender background checks. However, there are a few key differences to point out. First, the Nogo checks are not connected to any external databases. Second, your stations do not require an optical license scanner to perform the Nogo checks.
When a visitor checks in on your iVisitor Management station, your system will check the custom Nogo list you have set up. If the visitor’s name is on your list, your staff will receive an alert that they are trying to check-in.
Alert Notifications with iVisitor Management
What are alert notifications with iVisitor Management?
Your staff must be equipped with the information they need to make informed decisions. With iVisitor Management, staff members can opt to receive alert notifications when a visitor is a potential match for sexual offender checks, Nogo checks, or if there is an emergency alert.

How do alert notifications work with iVisitor Management?
Users can set up alert preferences within their Ident-A-Kid School Manager. There are five different alert types:
- Sexual Offender Check – staff will receive an alert if a potential match is found
- Nogo – staff will receive an alert if a match is found
- Sexual Offender Check Denial – staff will only receive an alert when the check-in is denied. This is helpful for users like your SRO or principal.
- Nogo Denial – staff will only receive an alert when the check-in is denied. This is helpful for users like your SRO or principal.
- Emergency – staff will receive custom emergency alerts
There are three delivery methods for alert notifications:
- Email – the email associated with a user’s Ident-A-Kid account will receive the notification
- Web School Manager – to receive these notifications, a user must be logged in and have the Ident-A-Kid School Manager web app open on their desktop. The notification will come in the form of a desktop push notification.
- Text message – users can add their cell phone number to their Ident-A-Kid account to receive notifications through text messages
Users can set up their accounts to receive any mix of alert types and utilize the delivery methods they prefer.
